Network Devices for an Attic

A couple of years ago it was quite painful to find networking equipment that didn’t cost a fortune and could operate in ‘harsher’ environments, like a very cold cellar or unisolated attics.

Learned today that the new UniFi USW Ultra Switch variants can handle up to 60°C when operated with a PoE++ input or the 210W AC adapter. This is perfect for setting up network switches in less climate-controlled areas, like an attic. Plus, it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. At least not compared with other switches.

My only hope is that it also has actual smart functionality. I got pretty burnt by the USW Flex. While I love the hardware, for some reason Ubiquiti decided to not ship some typical switch features on this device, like network loop detection and STP priority configuration.
