Missing Caps Lock?

Most of you probably noticed that the new Google netbooks will be abandoning the good ol' capslock key. Yahoo! News has an article about it. Those are my thoughts on it.

History

Back in the days there were capslock keys on typewriters just to activate the second function of the ...

Lighttpd's X-Sendfile

In this post I may introduce you, my geeky reader, to lighttpd's X-Sendfile HTTP Header. This will enable you to command lighttpd to send a file, obviously. You, my dear reader, may know that I absolutely love django. Therefore I may also give you a nice little snippet, which ...

Modular Lighttpd Configurations

You might have asked yourself how to split lighttpd's configuration files apart or how to simply create configuration templates for several sites. This will show you how.

Calculating Battery Health

Recently a twitter-collegue noticed that in iStat Nano his battery-health heavily fluctuates between 90% and 96%. He asked if that would occur to other MacBook users. I quickly took a look at the Battery section and after letting my battery drain, I couldn't see any fluctuation (constantly 96%). However ...

Migration to Disqus

Lighty on Lenny

All of my sites are powered by lighttpd. Therefore I was pretty shocked when I read that there is a serious flaw in lighttpd prior to 1.4.26 which allows massive DoS. I'm running debian lenny and this will show you how to backport lighttpd 1.4.26 ...

App that would not launch

Some weeks ago I got a brandnew MacBook Pro 15.4". No, this won't be yet another MacBook-Review. I downloaded an app and it just didn't open but I quickly found a simple solution. Looks like you can really profit on OS X from 4 years (holy!) experience ...

Comment Spam Protection

Update: Ironically this blogpost gets the most spamments. Therefore comments are now closed.

Recently I got really fed up by how much spam I receive in the form of comments. I decided that a captcha is not an ideal solution, since I just hate them and clever spambots have nice ...

Django Extensions

This small post is basically a note to myself. It's about the famous django-extensions (formerly django-command-extensions), to be more specific it's about the runscript command.

Update: As Andrzej wrote in the comments, appending -v 2 as argument tells you that your script needs a run() method.

So, django-extensions ...

My GIT

This post will explain how I use git to versioncontrol my different projects.

Usually I have my websites organised like this

/home/sites/DOMAIN

then every domain contains

  • /bin/ - needed for virtualenv
  • /git/ - here I host my git repository
  • /include/ - again only because of virtualenv
  • /lib/ - same here
  • /PROJECTNAME/ - here ...
